One Off Tax On Bankers Large Bonuses (December 08, 2009)

Alister Darling, has said that bankers should expect a onetime tax on large bonuses. Although taxpayers may be saying “about time” this is apparently a step back by the UK government and less harsh than they had previously planned.

Whilst the financial sector is seen as key to the UK getting itself out of recession there is still a lot of anger and bitterness towards bankers from the general public who blame them and the government for getting us into this mess in the first place. The fact that they are still getting bonuses may come as quite a shock to some.

Critics of the tax will say that the UK is losing out as talent bankers go overseas after more competitive bonuses and wage structures.
